Meet the Coaches
Head Coach Tom Collins

Tom Collins, the inaugural head baseball coach at Stony Point High School, will complete his 13th season in that position with the 2012 campaign. His Tigers have captured 4 Bi-District titles and battled their way to an overall record of 202-158 since the school opened. The Tigers 2011 16-5A championship was the first baseball district title in school history. Stony Point is the sixth coaching stop of Collins’ 23-year career. Round Rock Westwood, Austin Lanier, Tyler John Tyler, Georgetown, and Orangefield are the previous high schools at which Coach Collins served. Add to that list of high schools Southwestern University and Baylor University where Coach Collins spent one year each student coaching. Stony Point is the third head coaching position Collins has held.
Professional highlights for Coach Collins would have to include being named Co-Coach of the year on the 1990 All-Greater Houston team after leading his state semi-finalist Orangefield Bobcat team to a 23-6 record. At Orangefield, Collins coached the player who currently holds the longest ever consecutive game hitting streak in Texas high school baseball history (Jeff Granger, Texas A&M). At John Tyler, Collins’ team earned a spot in the national high school record book by turning five double plays in a game (vs. Tyler Lee). Collins was a member of the THSBCA Team Texas Senior Sunbelt coaching staff from 2005-2009, winning the prestigious summer baseball event in 2005 and 2008 and finishing as runners-up in 2006 and 2009. Collins served as the head coach for Team Texas in 2008 and 2009.
As a player, Collins was a three-year letterman for Houston Sharpstown High School, where he played third base and left field. He was a member of Sharpstown’s 1982 class 5A state championship team. Coach Collins earned all-district honors his junior and senior seasons and was named to the all-greater Houston team his senior season in high school. In college, Collins played for Coach Jim Mallon’s Southwestern University Pirates from 1984-1987. The 1984 Southwestern team finished third in the N.A.I.A. World Series. In each of his four years in college, Coach Collins earned the S.U. athletic/academic award for maintaining a GPA above 3.0 during semesters while playing baseball.
Coach Collins has been a member of Who’s Who Among American High School Students, Who’s Who Among Colleges and Universities, and Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers. He was also mentioned as one of the National Honor Roll’s Outstanding American Teachers for the 2005/2006 school year. Coach Collins was honored by the Greater Austin Sports Association as that group’s Coach of the Year in 2006. He has served as a math teacher for the duration of his teaching career. He has been active with the Austin Area Baseball Coaches Association and will serve as the President of the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association for a two year term starting in January of 2012.
Coach Collins was recently married to wife Cyndi and now has a stepdaughter Claire, age 9.
Assistant Coach Daryl Reeves

Coach Reeves has been a member of the Stony Point Coaching Staff since the 02-03 school year, and is currently the Varsity Assistant/Pitching Coach. From 2003-2004 he coached the JV Blue team. In 2009 Coach Reeves was a member of the coaching staff for the THSBCA Team Texas Senior Sunbelt which finished as runners up during the prestigious summer baseball event. He is a member of the Texas High School Coaches Association as well as the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association. At the 2012 THSBCA convention, Coach Reeves was awarded the 2011 Assistant Coach of the Year. Stony Point is the only school he has worked at in his coaching/teaching career.
Coach Reeves is a Round Rock native and is a 1996 graduate from Round Rock High School. His younger sister, Amber, is a Stony Point graduate of 04 and was a three year letter winner for the Volleyball team. His younger brother Taylor, a Stony Point graduate of 03, was active in the Theatre Arts Program. While at Round Rock he was a two time Baseball letter winner for Hall of Fame Coach John Langerhans. His senior year the team received a national ranking as high as #2.
After high school, Coach Reeves went on to play baseball at North Lake Junior College for two years. After receiving his Associates Degree at North Lake, he went on to Texas State University to earn a Bachelors of Business Administration in Business Management as well as his Teaching Certification.
Coach Reeves serves as the Offensive Line Coach, the Strength and Conditioning Coordinator, and the Academic Coordinator for Football. He has been involved in changing a football program that only won 8 games in 5 years to one that is a four time District Champion and three time State Semifinalist. In the classroom he serves the Career and Technology department while teaching Web Technologies and Principles of Information Technology. He was nominated Who’s Who Among Teachers in 2005.
Coach Reeves and his wife Kelley will celebrate 11 years of Marriage this summer and have two sons; Colten and Carson. In his spare time Coach Reeves enjoys weight training, hunting, fishing, sports, and spending time with his family.
Assistant Coach Heath Walz

Coach Walz has been a member of the Stony Point Coaching Staff since the spring of 2005. He is currently the JV Blue Coach. He is a member of the Texas High School Coaches Association as well as the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association. Stony Point is the only high school that he has worked at in his coaching/ teaching career.
Coach Walz is originally from Ellis Kansas. He graduated in 1996 from Ellis High School, where he was a 3 year letterman in football, basketball, and baseball. The basketball team was ranked in the top ten both his junior and senior years. He also lettered in wrestling at Topeka West High School during his freshman year of high school.
Coach Walz joined the United States Army Reserves during his junior year of high school. He was in the Army for six years and earned the rank of Sergeant. Coach Walz played baseball at Brown Mackie Community College his first year after high school. He then attended Texas State University and earned his bachelor’s degree in Mathematics. Coach Walz also earned his Master’s degree in Educational Administration from Lamar University.
Coach Walz is currently working at Stony Point as an administrative Intern as well as serving as the Credit Recovery Department chair. He also helped develop and create the Just In Time program for our students to recover current six week material.
Coach Walz is also a freshman football coach. He works as the Academic Coordinator and coaches the defense for freshman football. Coach Walz and his wife, Linda, have three wonderful kids, Maddie, Donny, and Emma.
Assistant Coach Travis Larson

Coach Larson has been a member of the Stony Point Coaching Staff since the 07-08 school year, and is currently the JV Gold Coach. He is a member of the Texas High School Coaches Association as well as the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association. Before Stony Point, Coach Larson was coaching at Western Hills High School in Fort Worth where he was the JV coach in 2006, and Varsity Assistant Coach in 2007.
Coach Larson is a 1998 graduate from McNeil High School. While at McNeil he was a three time Baseball letter winner for Coach Mike Goodwin. After high school, Coach Larson went on to play baseball at University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and was voted Team Captain.
Coach Larson also is a Football Coach for Football at Stony Point. He has been involved in changing a football program and has won a District Champion every year he has been at Stony Point, and three time State Semifinalist. In the classroom he serves the Career and Technology department. Coach Larson also runs the FCA program.
Coach Larson and his wife Crystal will celebrate 5 years of Marriage this summer. In his spare time Coach Larson enjoys running, playing with his dogs, watching the Cubbies, playing Marco Polo, and spending time with his family.
